The Dressage Canada Grand Prix Freestyle Championships will once again be a highlight of the Royal Horse Show, held November 2-11, 2007, as part of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto , ON.

Two horse-rider combinations are preparing to go head-to-head in a battle that will determine the Dressage Canada Grand Prix Freestyle Champion. As part of the featured evening performances, competitors will each perform a Grand Prix Freestyle to music on Wednesday, November 7, for Round 1, and on Thursday, November 8, for Round 2 of the Championships. The results of each test will be added together to determine the overall champion and be crowned the Dressage Canada Grand Prix Freestyle Champion.

The contenders in this year's Dressage Canada Grand Prix Freestyle Championships include Jacqueline Brooks riding Gran Gesto, and Canadian Olympian Cindy Ishoy aboard Proton.

At the Royal Horse Show, competitors will start with a clean slate. They will perform in front of a three-member ground jury that includes Elizabeth McMullen of Canada (FEI-O), Lorraine Stubbs of Canada (FEI-I) and Natalie Lamping of the United States (FEI-I).

In addition to the Dressage Canada Grand Prix Freestyle Championships, horse show spectators will also be treated to a special dressage demonstration each evening performed by double Olympian Ashley Holzer, and Canadian Equestrian Team shortlisted rider Gillian Sutherland.

Members of the 2007 Pan American Games Silver Medal Dressage Team as well as medalists from the 2007 North American Junior & Young Riders Championships will be at the Equine Canada booth Thursday November 8th for a special autograph session.

The score submission deadline of November 30 for 2007 Dressage Canada Horse and Rider awards is fast approaching.

Riders in the Rider Award program must be current members of Dressage Canada to earn awards.  Riders may earn an award on a horse owned by another who is not a Dressage Canada member.

Owners of horses in the Horse Award program must be current Dressage Canada members.

Lauren DiIanni Freestyle Award – 3 scores of 67% or more at Second Level or higher earned at National shows.  The available prize money each year will be split among those who have earned qualifying scores.

The Dressage community lost a valued supporter with the passing of international dressage judge, trainer and coach Wolfgang Michaelis.

Michaelis was Canada's Dressage team coach at the 1999 Pan American Games and 1998 World Equestrian Games. In addition to his official team coach duties, Michaelis was instrumental in helping to design and implement the current evaluation and education clinics which Dressage Canada uses its judging program.
